Samuel Blunston, s/o John and Sarah (Bickerstaffe) Blunston, was married to Sarah (Unknown) Bilton Blunston. They had no children. Samuel, John Wright and Robert Barber were the first landholders in present day Columbia having come to the Susquehanna in the fall of 1726 from Darby, Chester Co., PA. On June 4, 1718, he had married Mrs. Sarah Bilton, a wealthy widow of Philadelphia. Samuel was a surveyor. In 1729, when Chester and Lancaster Co. were divided, he was appointed Register-General of Wills, and Register of the County. Until the erection of the courthouse in Lancaster, the work of these several offices was carried out in a small office in his mansion (Belmont). He was elected to the General Assembly in 1732, 1741, 1742 and 1744. At his death in 1745, he left no issue, and gave his valued friend, Susannah Wright, a life interest in his large estate for the remainder of her life.
