BARTLETT.--George Gary Bartlett was born at Aurora, New York, August 31, 1829, and died at his home in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, December 5, 19OO. The deceased was married to Miss Ruby Coffin of Mt. Morris, Livingston County, New York, March 17, 1853. Sister Bartlett and her eight children survive to mourn their loss. Two of the daughters are wives of our Methodist Episcopal pastors: Ella, wife of Rev. Charles W. Simmons, of the Colorado Conference, and Lillian C., wife of Rev. C. N. Curtis, Ph.D., of the Troy Conference. Brother Bartlett received his education in Genesee Wesleyan Seminary, and came to Iowa in 1856. He was converted and joined the church at Lima, Livingston County, New York, when eighteen years of age. At the time of his birth, Brother Bartlett's father, Dr. Oliver C. Bartlett, M.D., a Local Preacher, was in charge of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Aurora, New York. Brother Bartlett's mother was one of the extraordinary women of early Methodism. One who knew her well, the Rev. F. G. Hubbard, writing in the Northern Christian Advocate said of her: "She was a burning and a shining light--one of the Mrs. Fletchers of the American Church--one of the Hannahs and Huldahs of Israel." Brother Bartlett's service in the church as a class leader and a God-fearing man has added more luster to her name. He was one of the pillars of the church, a very devoted, intelligent, spiritually-minded man, esteemed and loved by all. The funeral services were held in the First Methodist Episcopal Church, and conducted by his pastor, Rev. William H. Heppe, and the remains laid to rest in Forest Home Cemetery.
