Mrs. W. L. Frink, 83, Lived Near Kewadin More than 30 years
From Elk Rapids Correspondence:
The community was saddened when word was received Sunday morning that Mrs. Lydia Frink had passed away at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smith of New Haven.
Lydia Hall, daughter of the late Jess and Sabra Hall, was born in Myrtle, Ontario, Canada, June 28 1851. On Dec. 29, 1869, then was united in marriage to William L. Frink, who departed this life December 23, 1903. In the spring of 1878, she with her husband and two children came to Michigan, locating on the farm known as the Waring farm, one and one-half miles north of Kewadin, where she lived for over 30 years. Four more children were born to bless this happy union, the youngest one Lulu, dying in infancy. Two daughters, Mrs. Zella Gee and Mrs. Lillie Hockin, have passed on within the last five years.
She has been a faithful member of the Methodist church nearly all her life, and was always ready and willing to do all in her power for the betterment of the community in which she lived. In 1911 she left the farm and went to Detroit where she lived with her son Jesse and family, moving with them to Mt. Clemens a few years later, where she made her home until last August when she went to New Haven, where she passed away at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 1935, following an illness of about one month. She leaves to mourn her departure, two sons, Jesse of Mt. Clemens and Lowell of South Milton; one daughter, Mrs. Belle Smith of New Haven; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. At the time of her passing she was 83 years, 7 months and 16 days of age.
Following a funeral service at New Haven held Monday morning at 10 o'clock, the remains were brought to Elk Rapids where another service was held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. J C Matthews officiating. Burial was made beside her husband in the family lot in Maple Grove cemetery.
Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smith and two daughter(s), Josephine and Eleanor, of New Haven, Jesse Frink and three daughters, Mrs. Lena Mack and the Misses Beatrice and Geraldine Frink, and John Hockin and son Lloyd of Mt Clemens; and Mrs. Ida Frink of Traverse City.
