Mortimer was born in Franklin, PA , the son of Samuel Bailey & Mary Kinnear. His brother Samuel F. Bailey was my g-g-grandfather. Another brother, William K. Bailey, moved to New Orleans & had 3 daughters. One daughter, Almira, died in 1851. When William & his wife Susan Cost died in an epidemic in 1853, the 2 surviving daughters were sent to live with Mortimer & Susan. Mary died around 1855, leaving only Ida. So, Ida was Susan's niece.
