Margaret Reese Swartz (Ferguson), 87, of Danville passed away peacefully on Feb. 16, 2024, at the Sunbury Skilled Nursing and Rehab, Sunbury.

Margaret was born Dec. 29, 1936, in Wilkes-Barre, the only child of the late John and Sarah Reese Ferguson.

She grew up in Shavertown.

Margaret married the love of her life, Ralph Swartz Sr., on Oct. 10, 1959. Her death broke their 64-year marital union.

Margaret was a 1954 graduate of Westmoreland High School. Margaret attended nursing school in Wilkes-Barre and Geisinger School of Nursing. She graduated as a registered nurse and worked for Geisinger Medical Center for about 38 years before retiring.

Margaret was a lifelong member of Hendrickson United Methodist Church, where she was the church organist and sang in the choir.

Margaret was a member of the Danville Community Singers. She was a cancer survivor and enjoyed participating in the Relay For Life.

Margaret's biggest enjoyment in life was her family. She loved her pets, playing the piano, reading, going on bus trips, camping and sitting on the porch with her son and daughter-in-law talking about her upbringing. She was so proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed visits from her great-grandkids.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Swartz Jr., in 1997.
