Louis de Gand-Vilain Merode de Montmorency, 2nd Prince of Isenghien and 3rd of Masmines. Eldest son Jean Alphonse de Gand-Vilain (1655 1687), 1st Prince of Isenghien, and 2nd Prince of Masmines, and Marie Thérèse de Crevant , daughter of Marshal Louis de Crevant, 1st Duke of Humières.

Louis de Gand-Vilain was made colonel of an infantry regiment in 1697 and brigadier in 1703 and camp marshal on 1709 . He was appointed on 8 March 1718, lieutenant general of the King's armies and general lieutenant of Artois. He succeeded Marshal-Comte d'Artagnan as governor of Arras and lieutenant general of the province.

In April 1734 he served as lieutenant-general of the armies of the King of France in

Germany and was made marshal of France on 11 February 1741.He died in

Paris on 16 June 1767, the last male of his branch, without children, despite his three marriages;

First, On October 11, 1700, Anne-Marie-Louise de Furstemberg died 16 February

1706 ,eldest daughter of Prince Antoine-Egon Von Furstenburg .

Secondly ,On 19 March 1713 ,Thérèse-Charlotte Pot (died in childbirth, on January 8, 1715, at the age of twenty-one), 2nd Marquise de Rhodes eldest daughter of Charles Pot, 1 st Marquis de Rhodes .

Thirdly On 16 April 1720, Princess Marguerite-Camille Grimaldi of Monaco.


His estates went to the daughters of his younger brother Alexandre Maximilian died 1759:

Elisabeth-Pauline 3rd Princess of Issenghien and 4th of Masmines, married in 1755 to Louis-Leon Felicité de Brancas ,3rd Duke de Lauraguais and 6th Duke de Villars.

; Louise-Pauline married in 1762 Louis Alexandre, 6th Duke of Rochefoucauld and La Roche-Guyon, Pair of France ,who was executed in Revolution .
