Age 18 years enlisted July 25, 1862 at Montour, N.Y. mustered in on October 8, 1862 as a private in Co. H, 107th New York Infantry. He died of typhoid fever at Hope Landing, Va., on February 25, 1863.

He was originally buried at Hope Landing on Aquia Creek, Va. At some point after the war, he and 22 other men from the 107th NY infantry were reinterred at the Fredericksburg National Cemetery. In 1990 a sandstone memorial naming Ackerly and the 22 others was moved from Hope Landing and was placed on display at the Fredericksburg National Battlefield HQ at Chatham Manor.

Born 1845. Enlisted July 25, 1862 at Montour to serve three years. Died of typhoid fever Feb 25, 1863, at Hope Landing, VA. Originally buried at Hope Farm, Stafford. Cemetery roster has last name incorrectly listed as “Rackerly” and unit as 187th NY.
