He was originally buried at Hope Landing on Aquia Creek, Va. At some point after the war, he and 22 other men from the 107th NY infantry were reinterred at the Fredericksburg National Cemetery. In 1990 a sandstone memorial naming Ackerly and the 22 others was moved from Hope Landing and was placed on display at the Fredericksburg National Battlefield HQ at Chatham Manor.
