CB Janes was the spelling when he migrated to Texas from Pickens District South Carolina in 1863 after being wounded in the Civil War. He told how their wagon train required 30 days to cross the Mississippi River as only two could be floated across each day. The family stopped in Navasota after the death of their oldest son Bruce. In 1867 they moved to Valley Mills where he farmed and taught school.
CB married Eliza Ann Barton Jaynes 11/14//1858,in South Carolina, they lived in Patton Community, with this union they had 7 children. William Barton,Joe Berry,Arra Catherine, Terrel Pinkney,Nancy Ann, David Thomas Hanson" Dock", and Wad Charlie they were all born with the last name Janes so some time after this they put the "y" in the name. CB died in 12/10/1927 buried in Valley Mills.
CB served four years member of Orr's Regiment of Rifles. He attended a reunion of the old regiment at Walhalla a few years ago coming all the way from Texas for that purpose.
He was the last surviving Uncle of R.T and CG Jaynes of Walhalla
