SHELBY W. LEWIS passed away February 8, 2024, at Mesilla Valley Hospice. Shelby was born in Barn, WV., June 16, 1939, along with twin sister, Shelda to Cozy Dove and Owen "Red" Lewis. He was the third of four sons, Arnold, Bob, and Orville "Orv."
The family moved to Lockport, NY when he was thirteen years old. At 16 he met his future wife, Grace Rose. After high school he joined the US Army and married Grace on April 2, 1958. They had three children, Sheila, Shelby "Joey," and Sindy. He served in the army for 26 years and traveled all over the world. He retired from the Army as a SFC in 1984 in Las Cruces, NM. He was a husband, father, soldier, poet, and carpenter.
He is survived by his wife Grace, children Sheila, Joey, and Sindy; grandchildren, Jessie, Genesis, Candice, Adrian, Shana, Ellen, Devan, and Hunter; as well as numerous great- grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Shelby was preceded in death by his mother, Cozy Dove; father, Owen; brothers, Arnold, and Bob; and a sister Shelda.
A life celebration service will be in June 2024.
