Douglas Joseph "Clyde" Frichtl, age 62, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 8:37 PM – Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, Illinois.

Douglas Joseph Frichtl was born on March 18, 1961, in Effingham, Illinois, the son of Donald Francis and Rose Ann (Bergbower) Frichtl. He married Mary Fehrenbacher on August 23, 1986, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, Illinois.

Doug took great pride in the family farm, where he learned to work hard. Whether the day included chores, fishing, hunting for arrowheads or mushrooms, or finding treasures to keep in his shed, Doug was always happy living life on the farm. He enjoyed tinkering, wood working, building, and fixing things. Even as a kid, you could always find Clyde tearing things apart to learn how they worked.

Doug graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1979. Clyde was a loyal friend who enjoyed having a good time – often the last one to leave the party. Doug was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus #1704. He was always willing to lend a hand to a friend or neighbor.

Doug enjoyed a good game of pinochle or cribbage, old western stories, a good history book or documentary, and genealogy.

Doug was happy to be from a big family. His siblings and cousins were some of his closest friends. He loved his nephews and nieces as his own, and couldn't resist the smiles of his many great-nieces/nephews and his grandchildren. He was an incredible husband, father and grandfather. His farm and family were his pride and joy.

He loved his life and lived it to its fullest – fighting for it with great strength and grace. His smile, spirit of fun, and great love and faith will not be forgotten.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Don & Rose Ann Frichtl, father and mother-in-law Edwin and Mary Fehrenbacher, sister-in-law Ramona Frichtl, and nephew Craig Frichtl.
