Katharine Randolph Cheney, age 77, of Spruce Pine, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine.

Born on September 28, 1946 in Glen Ridge, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Robert B. and Gertrude Young Cheney.

In Oklahoma, Katharine worked with a medical team doing early research on kidney transplants. She also served as a teacher and school administrator for the Oklahoma City public school system in curriculum development. While living in Kentucky, she taught Hebrew to children. She loved being in nature, admiring rocks and gems, and working in her garden. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Dr. Jon Miller of Louisville, KY; her daughter; Rachel Lewis of Louisville, KY; her sisters; Elizabeth Mills of Virginia and Ann Thayer and husband, David of Spruce Pine; her former husband, Don Fowler of Oklahoma; her grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
