Mrs. Sumner was born July 14, 1958, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late C.M. & Dorothy Hurt Copeland. She was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and attended Wesleyan and Valdosta State, holding degrees in Psychology and History. She worked towards her Doctorate at the University of Georgia. She retired as vice-president of student services at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College.
She is survived by her sister, Phyllis & Larry Goldsworthy of Florida as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Ken Coffey and Jack Sumner; a daughter, Cheryl Coffey; a sister, Bonnie Justice; and two brothers: Robert Fletcher and John C. Fletcher.
