Tree Accident Kills Garrett Timber Cutter
Lakin Schroyer, 46, Left For Dead When Hit By Falling Tree
A Garrett county lumberman died this morning in Preston County W. Va. Memorial Hospital, Kingwood, of injuries suffered Tuesday when he was struck by a falling tree.

The man, Lakin Schroyer, 46, of Friendsville, was admitted to the hospital at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, about two hours after the accident occurred.

An employee of the Coddington Lumber Company of Friendsville, Schroyer was cutting timber near Kingwood with Mason Gibbs, company officials said. The two men had finished cutting a tree and were in apparent safety when the falling tree struck another and knocked it over onto Schroyer.

Gibbs, and another crew composed of Playford Frazee and Lee Bowser, ran about a quarter-mile to the mill thinking Schroyer had been killed in the accident. It was not until F. W. Pritt, of Kingwood, Preston County coroner, arrived that the men returned to the scene of the mishap.

A native of Garrett County, the deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Schroyer.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Jane Schroyer, two sons and two daughters.
