Born on April 10, 1923 in Bronx, New York, Hortense was the daughter of Edward J. and Hortense (Oliver) Blot. She graduated from Walton High School and was employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company until her move to Montrose, Pa, following her marriage to Kenneth B. Morrison on April 20, 1947. They enjoyed over 51 years of marriage and were blessed with seven children before his death on February 15, 1999.
Hortense was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had many hobbies and interests, including reading, playing Scrabble, solving crossword puzzles, crocheting, traveling, and watching sports on TV, especially her New York Yankees. After raising her children, she worked for several years as a caregiver at Asa Park Manor. Hortense was an active member of the Holy Name of Mary Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. Her wonderful sense of humor, wit, enduring strength, and resilience will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. She lived 'One day at a time' and always loved her family 'Way More'! We will miss her presence in our lives but she will remain forever in our hearts.
Hortense is survived by her seven children, Eugenie (Keith) Hibbard of Leesburg, FL; Marcella Morrison of Smyrna, NY; Eileen (Terry Merrigan) Renfer-Merrigan of Clarks Summit, PA; Carolyn Morrison of Mount Joy, PA; James E. (Valerie) Morrison of Montrose, PA; Christine (Rex) Maxey of Montrose, PA, and Gary P. (Jill) Morrison of Montrose, PA.
Also surviving are her 16 grandchildren, Brian (Niloni) Hibbard, Leslie (Benjamin) Clarke, John Martin, Kenneth (Niressa) Martin, Paul Martin, William (Davina) Renfer, Leigh Renfer, Kyle (Rachel) Morrison, Kodie (Anthony) Tanner, W. Joseph Pienody, Dylan Maxey, Scott Maxey, Rebecca Maxey, David Maxey, Katlyn Morrison, and Kory Morrison, 17 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Hortense was also predeceased by her brothers, Edward Blot, Jr., August Blot, J. Ritchie Blot, Jean Baptist Blot, and Gerard Blot, and her sisters Adrienne Chianese and Eugenie Kane.
A Mass of Christian Burial Will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the Holy Name of Mary Church with Rev. Patrick Albert officiating. Interment will be in Holy Name of Mary Cemetery. Visitations will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home.
