Jennielean Nielson passed away peacefully on January 13, 2024, in Riverton, Utah, due to the effects of a stroke. Jennielean was born on June 21, 1944, in Ogden, Utah, to LeRoy and Maurine Burnett.
Jennielean's journey through life was marked by her adventurous spirit, her love for her family, and her commitment to her faith.
Jennielean's early life in Ogden and Bluff laid the foundation for a lifetime of exploration and achievement. Although she claimed only a high school diploma, those who knew her would agree that Jennielean held an unofficial doctorate in the art of raising children. A devoted single mother during many years, she balanced the demands of parenting with a successful career in bookkeeping. For over two decades, Jennielean was a valued employee at HVAC Contractors Supply in Salt Lake City.
In her personal life, Jennielean's love for adventure knew no bounds. Tell her she couldn't do something, and guaranteed, she would do it. From shooting a mountain lion with her bow, to playing the harp, she embraced challenges with gusto. She took karate lessons, and she trained, and raced quarter horses, with her prized racehorse, "Friendly Doll", capturing the hearts of many. In 2011, Jennielean wrote and published a book By Grand Design, exploring the intricacies of evolution.
Jennielean was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved to attend the Temple as her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through many trials and triumphs with an unshakeable conviction. She had a great passion for genealogy, and she loved writing letters of testimony and love to her children and grandchildren for birthdays and Christmas.
Jennielean leaves behind a legacy of love and learning, embodied by her family, who will continue to be inspired by her spirit. Jennielean has left a current posterity of 11 children, 40 grandchildren, and 82 great-grandchildren (with 1 on the way). She is survived by her sons LeRoy, Lloyd, RT, Michael David, Steven, Mark, Eddie, John, and Brian. She was preceded in death by her loving eternal husband, Richie Nielson; her daughter, Dorine Roper; and her son, Justin.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Jennielean will remember her as a woman of great courage and conviction. Her adventurous nature, her faith-filled life, and her spirited approach to every endeavor made her a remarkable presence in the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will be cherished, and her presence sorely missed.
Jennielean's children wish to thank the dozens and dozens of individuals who contributed Christlike acts of charity to aid their mom in raising 11 children, mostly as a single mother. Only now, after many years, do we fully recognize the great help our mom received from so many.
