Kathryn E. Ballenger, age 102, of Portage, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 10, 1921, in Brazil, Indiana, to William Denver and Irma (Beatty) Acree.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Daniel W. Ballenger; her parents; and her brother, William Denver Acree.
Kathryn was the first Female Athlete of the Year for the State of Indiana in 1938 and participated in multiple sports. She enjoyed square-dancing and she and her husband Daniel traveled the country participating in many shows and events. Kathryn loved everyone and was loved by all.
Funeral Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 11:00 am at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, IN 46368. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
