Lavon Irene Amsler, age 87,of Quincy, died Sunday, January 14, 2024, in Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden, IL.

Rev. Lavon Amsler, an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God, was born July 10, 1936 in Cuba, Illinois, the daughter of Clyde Glenn and Velma Irene Voorhees Stevenson. She married Rev. V. Lee Amsler on July 17, 1955, at Glad Tidings Assembly of God in East Peoria.

Rev Lavon Amsler was a 1954 graduate of Dunlap High School in Dunlap, Illinois. Prior to her marriage with Vernon Amsler, she worked for Travelers Insurance in Peoria, Illinois, as a stenographer. She resigned her position to focus on family and her call to full-time ministry.

In 1962, Rev. Lavon Amsler, together with her husband, heeded the call to ministry and began their career as a part-time youth pastor at Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Peoria, IL. In 1966, she and her husband pastored First Assembly of God in Virden IL. The family relocated to Quincy in 1969 when they accepted the position of pastor at Faith Assembly of God. They remained until the founding of Victory Assembly in 2002. Upon merging with Harvest Outreach, they founded Riverside Community Church in Quincy. It was there they remained until they retired in 2018. Rev. Lavon Amsler was a recipient of an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Alabama Bible College. She served several years as a chaplain at Bickford Cottage. She was involved in a variety of ministries, including a weekly television devotional called "Recipes for Life", Girls' ministries, Children's ministries, and Women's ministries. She played the piano and organ for congregational worship, participated in numerous Christmas and Easter productions at Faith Assembly of God, and shared her love for worship through singing in the choir and solos. She was passionate to share her faith and read the Word. One year she read the Bible through six times. She loved her church, her family, and most of all, her Lord Jesus Christ.

Lavon is survived by her four children, Rev. David (Rev. Debbie) Amsler of Guatemala City, Donald (Connie) Amsler of Ursa, Rev. Donna (Rev. David) Delp of South Africa, and Rev. Dennis (Debbie) Amsler of Liberty; grandchildren, Rev. Darian (Kristi) Amsler, Rev. Derick (Rev. Jessica) Amsler, Rev. Dawn (Rev. Jonathan) Coad, Renee (Chris) Sena, Robert (Nicole) Amsler, Robin (Alex) Ippensen, Regina Lavon (Cole) Schralla, Rick (Lauren) Amsler, Rona (Tim) Vahle, Danelle (Chaplain Michael) Spalla, Daniel (Kelsey) Collins, Deanna (Brandon) Barron, David Lee Collins (fiance Samantha), Kelly Delp (Aaron Wannamaker), and Ashley (Eric) Scheffel; and Brad Amsler, Brianna Amsler, great-grandchildren, Drew, Brayden, Cameron, Kaliegh, Averie, Cade, Maci, Ethan, Kiersten, Calvin, Constance, Archer, Ayla, Cooper, Adalynn, Annalise, Elijah, Emilia, Eloise LaVonne, Ryker, Eva Kay, Oliver, Adrian, Eliana, and Ryland; three sisters, Alta Gehring, Marjorie (Brant) Smith, and Launa (Dean) Pierce; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lavon was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. V. Lee Amsler; her parents, Clyde and Velma Stevenson; her daughter, Debra Amsler; her brothers, Linn and Leon Stevenson; her son-in-law, Dave Collins; and her great-grandchildren, Aaron Schralla and Levi Eugene Collins.

Visitation: 9:00 am-10:00 am Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Quincy Faith Church.

Services: 10:00 am Wednesday, January 17, at Quincy Faith Church. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery.
