Allison Clay Kistler II, 77, of Bellville, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. Clay was born in Reno, NV, the son of Helen (Batte) and Allison Clay Kistler. An Air Force "brat," he grew up on bases across Japan and the U.S., graduating from Burns Flat-Dill City High School in Oklahoma and earning B.S. and M.A. degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and an Ed.D. from Texas Tech University.
Befitting his wide-ranging curiosity, Clay's career traversed government and education, with assignments ranging from early service as the reading clerk for the Texas House of Representatives to a posting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on behalf of the US Departments of State and Treasury, to faculty and administrative roles at Central Texas College, Texas Tech University, University of North Texas, University of Bophuthatswana in South Africa, and Phillips University in Enid, OK and Osaka, Japan.
Upon retiring from academia, Clay became a real estate appraiser, founding The Kistler Company in Bellville with his beloved wife and partner in all things great and small, Margaret Koy Kistler. A proud Bellvillian, Clay was at the time of his passing a member of the Bellville City Council, Tail Twister of the Bellville Lions Club, Bellville HS Booster Club member, and a former member and past president of both the Bellville General Hospital Board and the Bellville Economic Development Council. A longtime member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Clay served St. Mary's in roles including lay reader, member of the Church Foundation and Day School boards, vestry member, and senior warden.
Always quick with a joke and a smile, Clay, "Beeves" to his adoring grandchildren, delighted in his family and friends and cherished good times spent in good cheer over conversation, stories, games of chess and of poker, and shared meals.
He is survived by his son, Daniel Kistler and wife, Erin, and grandchildren Mack and Mairéad, all of Boston, MA; his brothers-in-law, Ernie Koy (Marcella) of Kenney and Ted Koy (Valerie) of Georgetown; nieces, Lucy Lennox (Michael), Suzanne McMinn (Brian), Caroline Gorman (Scott); and nephews, Robert (Barbie), Andy (Jay), and Jess (Katie) Koy, and many treasured friends.
Clay was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and parents, Al and Helen Kistler.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 24 North Masonic, Bellville, Texas.
