Wanda Kay Barnes, 67, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 7, 2024. Wanda, a loving, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend was the daughter of the late George and Almetta Young Barnes. She was born on June 9, 1956, in Lancaster County, South Carolina.

Wanda was a member of Mt Moriah AME Zion Church. She served in many capacities including a member of the Missionary and Trustee Board, Senior Choir, and head of the Kitchen Committee.

Wanda was a 1974 graduate of Lancaster High School. She was on the cheerleader squad. She continued her academic studies at USC-L where she continued to cheer.

Wanda retired from the Lancaster County School District after many years of service. She enjoyed working with children at Clinton Elementary and Southside Early Childhood Center.

Wanda leaves to cherish fond memories one daughter, Courtney Barnes McGriff (Robert, Jr) of Bonaire, GA; three grandchildren, Kaydence, Robert III & Easton; five sisters, Gwendolyn Hinson Minor (John) , Cassandra Barnes , Lisa Barnes McGriff (Joe) and Debra Barnes all of Lancaster, SC and Peggy Barnes Winder (David) of Pomaria, SC; two brothers, Charles Jones (Aurelia) of Mint Hill, NC and George Barnes, Jr. (Glennell) of Kershaw, SC; three special nieces, Bridgette Hinson Mingo (Terrell), Ariana Jones and Rielly Winder and five special nephews, Corey Jones (Alana), Chandon Jones (Samantha), Derrick Anthony (Macey), Michael Hinson (Shakeeda), and Jalen McGriff.

Funeral Service, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Mt. Moriah AME Zion Church with burial in the Lancaster Memorial Park Cemetery.
