Geraldine Lee Young, affectionately known as Jerry, began her remarkable journey on New Year's Day in 1932, in Harper, KS, as the first of five children born to Theodore 'Ted' and Iva Irene (Hickman) Barr. Her earthly journey was completed on January 5, 2024, at the age of 92 years and 5 days.

The first two years of Jerry's life were spent in Rago, KS, a quaint community 12 miles north of Harper, KS. In 1934, her parents returned to Dewey County, OK, where Jerry embarked on her formal education in Putnam, OK, and later attended schools in Seiling, OK, before graduating with the Vici High School Class of 1950. The bonds formed with her classmates endured through the years, as they gathered annually to celebrate the Vici Alumni festivities.

On November 2, 1950, Jerry exchanged vows with the love of her life, Niles Bryan Young, in a double wedding ceremony in Woodward, OK. Their lifelong friends, Nora Hixson and Jack McCleery, were the other couple in this joyous union. Niles and Jerry began their life together on the Easterwood Ranch near Ft. Supply, OK, residing in Amarillo, TX, until the mid-1950s. Blessed with a son, Mick, and a daughter, Linda, they returned to Vici, making homes on the Borden place and in the town of Vici before settling northeast of town in their current country home in 1983.

Jerry actively contributed to the Vici community, participating in organizations such as the JC Janes, the ambulance service in the 1960s, and the Lions Club, she was a charter member of the Classy Lions Club. She was baptized at a young age and was a member of the Vici United Methodist Church, where she was always on hand to help with numerous dinners.

In addition to her civic involvement and every day duties as a busy wife and mother, Jerry worked at the Vici Nursing Home and served as the site manager and cook at the Vici Sr. Citizens for a time. She received numerous awards for her community efforts. In 1971, Niles and Jerry established Young's Body Shop, a mechanic and auto body business which later became Mick's Body Shop, where Jerry diligently served as the bookkeeper. In 1975 she ran a local ceramic shop, a craft she enjoyed immensely.

The Young household was known for its open door and welcoming guests, including three foreign exchange students they sponsored after their own children were raised. An animal lover, Jerry enjoyed watching the wildlife near her home. She never missed her grandchildren's school functions and ball games as long as her health permitted her to attend. Jerry was a marvelous cook and her Thanksgiving dinners and love of family made memories that will never be forgotten.

Geraldine Lee Young is preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Iva Barr, her beloved husband Niles "Brig" Young, three siblings, Charles Barr and his wife Anna, Ronald Barr, Betty Vinyard and her husband Bob, a grandson Matt Hughes, special sister-in-law Cheryl Barr, and other loved ones.

The memories of happy times will be cherished by her children Mick Young and his wife Susan of Sharon, OK, and Linda Valerius of Woodward, OK. Grandchildren Niki Sharp and her husband Kyle of Edmond, OK, Dedra Hogshooter of Woodward, OK, and Joe Bob Stump and his wife Melinda of Lawton, OK. Six great-grandchildren, Kane, Arei, Maddie, Hayden, Ashten, and Devin. Her brother Donald 'Butch' Barr of Vici, OK, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A heartfelt thank you to her kind and loving caregivers, Kay Manues, Diane Bradey, Connie Randall, and everyone else who cared for Mom. Your kindness and dedication are deeply appreciated…you know who you are.
