William "Bill" Barefoot
July 30, 1933 ~ December 29, 2023 (age 90)

William Felton "Bill" Barefoot, aged 90, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 29, 2023.

Bill was born on July 30, 1933, to parents, William Kirby and Bertha Mae Barefoot in Linden, NC. He and his four siblings grew up living and working on a small family farm. He attended Linden High School and then joined the U.S. Air Force, leaving home at 17 years old. In 1953, he left active military service and joined the Air Force Reserve. He served proudly from Vietnam through Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He was always eager to talk about his travels around the world and flying with the Air Force. In 1993, Bill retired from the Reserve as a Chief Master Sergeant after 42 years of service to the U.S. Air Force. Bill began his primary career in 1958 in Civil Service for the U.S. Army, DOC, in Ft. Bragg, NC. Upon his retirement in 1990, he was a Supervisory Contract Administrator, GS-13.

Bill married the love of his life, Virginia Ann Newton, on March 30, 1957, in Dillon, SC. Together they raised two sons, Gary Felton Barefoot and Thomas Kirby Barefoot.

In their retirement, Bill and Virginia enjoyed traveling, oftentimes with their adult boys and their families, and they stayed very busy entertaining their five grandchildren. Beginning in 2008, Virginia's healthcare needs shaped the remainder of Bill's retirement years as he tended to her in their family home until her death in March of 2020.

His parents and his brothers, Otis and James, preceded Bill in death. He is survived by his sons, Gary and Thomas (Karen); five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his sister, Lottie; and his brother, Charles.

Bill was a member of the Ft Bragg Masonic Lodge #667 and Shriner.

Bill was a lifelong member of Galatia Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, NC where his funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, January 5, 2024. The family will be happy to receive family and friends in the church fellowship hall at 1:00pm, prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors.
