Jane was the tenth of twelve children of Urial and Anna Rich Dart and was born 30 April 1830 at Lodi, New York. Jane never married although she had many admirers and opportunities of marriage. She sacrificed them all to remain with her sister, Olive, who was in poor health.

After the death of their brother, James, Jane and Olive closed their home and spent the winters with their niece, Adelphia Ann Dart of Ovid, New York. In the summer they would come back to the farm where Jane cared for the many beautiful flowers growing in their garden. There was an abundance of all fruits in season and always a wee filled cookie jar to tempt young and old.

After several years they sold the farm to their nephew George A. Dart who already owned the original Dart farm across the highway and they went to live with their niece Adelphia.

In the spring of 1912, Jane fell on the stairs at Adelphia's home and broke her hip from which, although 82 years of age, she recovered sufficiently to be able to walk with a cane. In the fall of 1913 they went to live with their nephew George and family at Houghton, New York where they lived until their death.

Jane died of Pneumonia at the home of her nephew George on 21 December 1913. She was a very devoted member of the M. E .Church at East Varick, McDuffie Town. When the first Wesleyan Methodist Church of Varick was organized she with her sister, Olive, were charter members. She is survived by her sister, Olive B. Dart, and a goodly number of nephews and nieces. Her life is well remembered and will be an inspiration to all who knew her. Funeral services were held at the home in Houghton, New York. Rev. S. Bedford officiating. Her body was brought to Romulus, New York by George A. Dart and his son Clare, with the burial in the family lot at Oak Hill Cemetery in McDuffie Town, East Varick, New York 24 December 1913. Her former pastor Rev. J. H. Cook officiating.
