Elizabeth was the daughter of Edward Gillard and Susan (Hoskins) Gillard. She married her first husband,miner, Angus Finley McMartin in 1896 at Ashcroft, British Columbia. All her known children were born in this marriage. After Angus died in 1924, she remarried to her second husband George Jay Hale. She is buried with her second husband in Vancouver, BC Canada.
