Ruth Helen (nee Hutchens) Vaughn departed this life on December 30th, 2023, at the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 9 days.

Ruth was born on February 18, 1933 at Nampa, Idaho, to parents, Clare McKinley Hutchens and Esther Marie (nee Good) Hutchens.

She was married to Clarence Lionel Vaughn on September 18th, 1950 at Nampa, Idaho.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Clarence Vaughn. She was also preceded by her son, Donald Vaughn, her granddaughter, Donna Vaughn, and her grandson, David Vaughn.

Ruth was survived by five children: daughter, Barbara Sewell of Gainesville, TX, son, Richard Vaughn (Wife Cheryl) of Big Sandy, TX, daughter, Arlene Dickinson (Husband Jon) of Alvin, TX, son, Charles Vaughn of San Leon, TX, and son, Clint Vaughn of Yerington, NV. She was also survived by 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, and keeper of the home and lived independently for several years following her husband's death.

Ruth was a believer and a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Big Sandy. Before her decline in health, she was active in serving in that assembly in the AWANA program, the Childrens Church, and the annual Vacation Bible School.

Ruth was a prolific crocheter, having learned at her mother's side from the age of nine. Throughout her life she made countless pairs of booties for newborns, and an endless supply of doilies, caps, and shawls for every festive occasion for friends and for neighbors.

Additionally, Ruth was an avid collector of buttons, buttons of every variety, perhaps as many as in the tens of thousands. She loved to frequent estate sales with the intent of seeking any buttons that might have been available.

She was and is loved and will be missed by all her family and friends.

Graveside services for Mrs. Vaughn will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Bro David Thorton officiating at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer, TX. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
