Born in Oconee County, South Carolina, Troy was the son of Claude E. and Pearle Hulsey Beatty. Troy worked in Management at Duke Power's Oconee Nuclear Station. He also served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. Troy was a member and deacon of Clearmont Baptist Church. After relocating to Charleston, SC, he became a member of Life Park Church.
Troy is survived by his wife; son, Michael Scott Beatty; daughter, Kimberly Stubbings (Jason); sister, Geneva Donald; and 6 grandchildren, Hunter Scott Beatty (Megan), Garrett Michael Beatty, Paige Elizabeth Beatty, Mariane Dawn Stubbings, Kaytlin Belle Stubbings, and Devon Alexander Stubbings.
