MASON - Manuel Monroe Buntyn passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023, at the age of 79 years old. He was born on February 09, 1944 in Brady, Texas.

Manuel Monroe Buntyn also known as Mannie to his family and Monroe McCarty while going through school. He was preceded in death by his father, William Manley Buntyn; mother, Ester Bush McCarty; and step-father, Arlis McCarty.

Survived by his wife of 40 years, Valerie; daughter, Kittyn Buntyn Hale; son, Kory Buntyn (Heather); grandchildren, Mackenzie Anderson (Chris); Zachary Weeks (Jessie); Chandler Buntyn; and 4 great grandchildren.

In 1949 at the age of 5 he contracted polio. He spent the next 3 years at Warm Springs in Gonzalez, Texas unable to walk. His favorite story about those times is when he surprised his mother when he walked up to her. He had back surgery at the age of 12. The school had a specially made desk for him while he was wearing a cast around his body.

Monroe lived a full life. He enjoyed all things outdoors, hunting, fishing, and hard work. He volunteered for Texas Parks and Wildlife for 40 years with his best friend IG Willmann. As a child he was a boy scout under the leadership of Hilton Moneyhon and became an eagle scout. Hilton and Della were his other parents while growing up. His family lived at the Moneyhon dairy and Monroe helped deliver milk bottles before school with Daddy Arlis.

He was a life member of the McCulloch Masonic Lodge #273 in Mason Texas where he became a 32nd degree Scottish Right.

He spent many days at the Mason Feed Store having coffee and telling stories. (Men do gossip more than women).

Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, October 30, from 1 – 3 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home with the service following at 3:00. Interment will follow at the Wagram Cemetery.
