Rita was born November 20, 1922 in Hillsdale, New Jersey, to Anne Wright O'Neill and Francis (Frank) O'Neill. She grew up in Hillsdale and was a nurse until becoming an Air Force wife. She met her husband Edward at a science fair. They were married for 59 years.

The family moved often during the post-war years due to her husband's various air force assignments. After the family settled on a farm outside Damascus, Maryland in 1959, she became a successful realtor for many years, and enjoyed collecting antiques with her husband.

Mild and polite and yet determined, she managed a family and career for many years, enjoying farm life until finally selling the farm and moving to The Lorien senior facility in Mt. Airy in 2018.

Her husband, Edward S. Wilson, preceded her in death in 2001. She is survived by her children Edward S. Wilson II (Sharon), Lindalee Wilson Brownstein (Barry), and Kerry Wilson (Deborah), grandchildren Edward S. Wilson III (Ellen), Gary Brownstein (Megan), Katie Knostman (Tom), Daniel Brownstein (Pam), Justin Griffin, and Angel Moore (Mike), as well as great-grandchildren and dear friends Fran and George McGee, David and Emily Flynt, and many others.

A funeral service will be held January 2 at 11 a.m. at Eyler's Valley Chapel.
