MUSCATINE, Iowa - Berdena (Dena) Mary Schliesman, 87, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. A Rosary Service will be at 3:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous in Tanner Schliesman's name or Ss. Mary and Mathias Catholic School, in Muscatine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Ss. Mary Mathias Catholic Church. A time for food and fellowship in Gannon Hall will follow the Mass. Dena's cremation wishes will be honored with a private inurnment.
Dena was born on August 27, 1936, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Vincent and Lucille Lynch Kingsley. She married Tom Schliesman June 23, 1962, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in LaMotte, Iowa.
She was a member of the Ss. Mary and Mathias Catholic Community where she served on various committees. Dena worked as a library aide at Muscatine High School for 16 years. After retirement in 1999, she volunteered at schools where Gina taught and in the library at Ss. Mary and Mathias Catholic School. She was a member of the Trinity Friends Auxiliary. She loved life, her Irish heritage and most of all her family.
Dena is survived by her four sons, Pat Schliesman (Darlene), of Knoxville, TN, Tim Schliesman (Jan), of Andover, KS, Phil Schliesman (Gina), of Muscatine, and Ty Schliesman (Christy), Kansas City, MO; seven grandchildren, Jalynn Michler (Chad), Tanner, Karlee, Caden, Crew, Ben, and Julia; two great granddaughters, Layken Joy and Adalynn Grace; sister, Jen Russell of Dubuque; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom, on March 9, 2020; and family members - Shots and Alecia Konrardy, Joe and Anna Mae Kingsley, Jerry and Rose Kingsley, Arnie and Thelma Herrig, Chuck Kingsley, a brother-in-law, Bob Russell and five nephews Mike Kingsley, Dale Russell, Jude Herrig, Dan Herrig, and Wayne Konrardy.
