Tom I. Wilson, 93, of Arlington, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on December 19, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on December 28, 2023, at Sagamore Baptist Church 2301 Dottie Lynn Parkway, Fort Worth, Texas, 76120, with Pastor Denny Gorena officiating. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. December 28, 2023, at Crestview Memorial Park, Wichita Falls, Texas, with arrangements under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
Tom was born on September 28, 1930, in Spearman, Texas, to Odos and Nora Hoff Wilson. He was the middle of three boys with an elder brother Bob and younger brother, John. He grew up on a farm on the high plains of the Texas Panhandle during the height of the Dust Bowl. His family's adventures and troubles during this time were the source of many of his favorite memories and stories.
The family moved to the small town of Dalhart, and Tom attended high school there where he discovered his lifelong love of football and noted that it took time to get used to the noise of the "big city".
After high school, Tom enlisted in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. His service was the source of much pride and more wonderful stories. After being discharged from the Army, he moved to Wichita Falls where he met and married the love of his life, Treva Self. Together they had one daughter, Ann, truly his heritage and reward.
Tom and Treva raised their family in Wichita Falls where he had various types of employment in the transportation industry over the years, culminating with a position at Mayflower as a relocation sales consultant. After retirement he thoroughly enjoyed working as a school bus driver and later as a driver on Sheppard Air Force Base.
Tom was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls, serving as a deacon, and in various ministries. He was an active member of WF Rotary Club and supported the Boys and Girls Club. Tom had a passion for learning and had many interests including golf, painting, woodworking, and spent many hours creating pictures on his computer.
Above all, Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. After retirement, he moved to Arlington, Texas, and became a supportive member of Sagamore Baptist Church. As a faithful follower of Christ, Tom led his family every day by example. He sought to serve and love others before himself and to seek the will of his Heavenly Father in all things.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Odos and Nora Wilson; brothers, Bob and John Wilson.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Treva; daughter, Ann Woods of Arlington, Texas; granddaughter, Andrea and her husband Art Bobadilla; grandchildren, Ethan Wilson, Maya and Xander Bobadilla; as well as many other beloved family members and friends.
