Darl E. Baker, 68, died Friday, March 4, 2016 at the Pine Tree Lodge Nursing Home in Longview after a long battle with Parkinson's. Services to celebrate his life will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 501 E U.S. Hwy 80, White Oak, Tx.

Darl was born June 13, 1947 in Houston, Texas, to James Baker, Sr. and Evelyn (Armstrong) Baker. He was a long time resident of White Oak, Texas. He grew up in a large family and graduated from White Oak High School in May of 1965. After graduating high school he was drafted to the United States Army and served July 1967 through July 1969. He met his wife, Dianne Freeman at a mutual friend's house. They were married on April 24, 1970. He graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree from the University of Texas at Tyler, Tx, in 1979. Darl worked hard to support his family and carried several different professions over the years including teaching, working for Phillips Petroleum for 14 years, and even ran his own side business cleaning sidewalks to keep ends meet.

Darl was a sweet Christian man who loved God and volunteered at Emmanuel Baptist Church teaching Sunday school classes of all ages. He was very competitive and into sports including handball, racquetball, and he was an avid golfer. He also loved to to watch sports. Personal favorites being the Texas Longhorns and Texas Rangers. However, he was always at every game his kids competed in, was their biggest fan, and never missed a game. He was a family man who adored his wife, Dianne, and would strive to teach his kids to be smart and athletic. A perfectionist in everything he did, he also encouraged his children and siblings to be the best version of themselves. He loved to pick on people, and make them laugh. Darl was an amazing grandfather who would do anything for his grandchildren, as well. He loved taking them on nature walks, to the train station, and playing games with them.

Darl is preceded to heaven by his parents James Baker, Sr. and Evelyn (Armstrong) Baker; and his son, Donavon Baker. He leaves his wife of 45 years, Dianne (Freeman) Baker; his son, David Baker and his wife Cristy Baker; his son Dominic Baker; his daughter Dionna Rice and her husband Jeremy Rice; daughter Darla Hammond and her husband Ryan Hammond; his grandchildren, Beth Peterson, Mason Baker, Cole Hass, and Garett Hass; and 6 brothers, Jimmy Baker, Lindy Baker, Gary Baker, Ricky Baker, Randy Baker, Damon Baker; his 2 sisters, Bonnie Mckinney Key and Cathie Lou Tehan; his brother in laws and sister in laws and many nieces and nephews.
