Dorothy A. Palombo, 92, of North Providence, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020, due to complications of the COVID-19 virus, at Stillwater Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Community in Greenville, RI. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Armando and Ida (Capobianco) Campanella.
Dorothy received her high school diploma from St. Xavier's High School in 1946. She worked for U.S. Drafting Army Map Service for several years and as a dental assistant to the late Dr. William D'Abbraccio.
"Dottie", as she was fondly called by the many who admired her, described her profession as a "homemaker and mother". She was a devoted wife and an adoring mother. Many cherished their time with her as she showcased her passion for cooking while entertaining them with her colorful conversation. She would continually inquire if everyone had enough to eat while buzzing around her kitchen.
Dorothy would share her immense love for the Lord, her family and her many dogs with everyone she met. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert Palombo for a remarkable and happy 70 years. She and Albert thoroughly enjoyed travel excursions and shopping.
Dorothy also spent time volunteering at local soup kitchens and her church parish, as well as her Sundial Garden Club with friends. She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Parish of North Providence, attending mass there frequently, and later years was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Johnston, RI.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Alan (Donna) Palombo, Robert (Pamela) Palombo, James (Terry) Palombo, and her daughter, Judith (David) Centracchio. She was the grandmother of Jacqueline, Jessica, Samantha, the late James, Christopher, Gianni, Tessa, Joely and Grace, great-grandmother of Tyler and Ryan; sister of Armando "Sam" Campanella and the late Achille "Archie" Campanella.
Her funeral and burial will be private. A memorial mass will be held at a later date in celebration of her life.
