Lawrence H. Kent Sr., 95, died Nov. 15, 2002 at a Topeka retirement home where he had been since 1997. He was born Jan. 28, 1907 in Sturgeon, Mo., the son of George and Mary Kent. He lived in St. Joseph, Mo., and Elwood for 39 years before he moved to Topeka about 25 years ago. He had worked for Dannen Mills in St. Joseph, Mo., for 35 years. He married Opal Flesher in November 1934 in Columbia, Mo. She died Oct. 11, 1994. He also was preceded in death by a son, Herbert Kent Jr., and two stepdaughters, Dorothy Barnes and Betty Abbot. Survivors include three sons, Fred Kent and John Kent, both of Topeka, and Bruce Kent, Casper, Wyo.; a daughter, Katherine Long, Salt Lake City; 24 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 19 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hoyt Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at the Presbyterian Manor, 4712 W. Sixth St., Topeka, KS 66606.
