Patsy Herring Thompson was born in Noodle, Texas in Jones County on November 11, 1939. She graduated from Merkel high School in 1958. She graduated from LVN School, Stamford Sanatorium Hospital, in 1961. She loved nursing and worked for many years and in many states. She retired from Hendrick Medical Center after 25 years.

She married Jason (Duke) Thompson in 1961, he was serving in the U.S. Air Force. While stationed in Germany 1962-1966, they enjoyed traveling in their V.W. Bug and camping. They toured Germany, Switzerland, Holland, France, Luxemburg, Belgium, Austria, Spain, Denmark, and Sweden. They especially enjoyed touring castles along the Rhine and Mosel Rivers.

Her hobbies included quilting, table games with family, she loved spending time with her husband and son. Patsy and her husband shared a love for dogs, two were by her side to the end. She enjoyed Southern Gospel music and attended concerts, she shared this love with her brother Jimmy. She loved her church and was a dedicated Sunday school teacher of children for years—she wanted them to know Jesus!! She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the age of 10.

Patsy is preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Bill Herring, Sisters: Betty McBay, Erma Lewallen, Bessie Fortune, Rutha Miller and Brothers: E.W. Herring and Jimmy Herring.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jason (Duke); one son Jeffrie Alan Thompson (the JOY of her life); a sister-in-law Betty Herring; one brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Marilyn Herring; numerous nieces and nephews and countless children who considered her a Grandma like Pepper Grace and Hank who live across the street from her.

She leaves a multitude of friends like family to her, some thru her an 84th Birthday Party this November 11th!

Patsy went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 2, 2023. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the age of 10 and now she is with Him. The Celebration of her Life will be Thursday December 7 at Elmwood Funeral Home in Abilene, visitation 10am and services 11am.

In lieu of flowers, a donation could be made to Samaritans Purse, St. Jude, or Fellowship of Jews and Christians.
