Last rites for Jim Abbott of Long Beach, California, a former Creston resident, were held Wednesday morning, March 29, at the First United Methodist Church in Creston. He died of liver failure at the F.H.A. Hospital in Hawaiian Gardens, California, March 22, 1995.

Rev. Thomas W. Woodin officiated for the funeral, and Chuck Gifford was the eulogist. Interment was in the Greenfield Cemetery.

Jim was born July 6, 1945, in Creston to Floyd and Leona (Boyd) Abbott.

He graduated from Creston High School in 1963, and attended Creston Community College, and Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. He was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, and worked for a collection agency in Omaha for a few years, then resided at Kearney, Nebraska, for seven years where he established his own credit and collections business.

He had lived in Long Beach the last 12 years, where he worked as a computer specialist in bookkeeping and accounting. He was a member of Christ Chapel in California, and Crestmen Combo. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his parents, Floyd and Leona Abbott of Creston, a brother, Bill Abbott and wife Cathy of Nevada, Iowa, and three sisters; MaryAnn Broomhall and husband Harold of Omaha, Nebraska, Linda Brown and Husband Al of Cedar Rapids, and Jan Farley and husband Marvin of Blue Grass.
