Jeanne Cawley Claybaugh was called home December 10, 2023. She was 96 years old. Jeanne was born in the family home in Ogden, Utah on January 16, 1927. The daughter of Cecil Clinton Cawley and Ann LaRue Hope Cawley, she grew up in Huntington Park, California with her younger sister Joan.
Jeanne's early interests included art and swimming. As a teen she was a member of the Southern California Aquabelles, a synchronized swim team, as well as a YMCA and Red Cross certified lifeguard.
Jeanne married Donn Robert Claybaugh on July 25, 1943 in Bremerton, Washington, at which time Donn was in the U.S. Navy and attending Torpedoeman's training. Following a short honeymoon Donn was shipped to the South Pacific theater of World War II and Jeanne returned home to Huntington Park. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George temple.
Donn and Jeanne were the parents of eight children: Ann Cochard, Dennis, Kenneth, Jonn, Connie Oyler, Winn, Bennett and Brennan. The family was known as the Double NN family. In addition to raising eight children Jeanne often supplemented the family income by working in and out of the home. She was a newspaper carrier supervisor for the South Bay Daily Breeze. After a move to Utah in 1976 she rose in the ranks of the Provo Herald circulation department. Later still she was a bookkeeper for her son Winn's business.
A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jeanne served in many capacities. She and Donn served a mission in the Atlanta, Georgia Temple in 1990-91. She was also an experienced genealogist.
Friends and family remember Jeanne as a quiet, patient devoted wife and mother with unconditional love, putting the needs and wishes of others before her own. She was also known to spoil her 28 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She had a subtle sense of humor to delight people off guard.
Jeanne's goal after Donn's death in 2014 was to remain in their home. This was accomplished with the help of her children as well as Mona, Judy R., Mary, Hospice and Right At Home, to which we extend a heartfelt thanks.
Jeanne was preceded in death by both of her parents, two infant brothers, her sister Joan, grandson Joseph Johnson, husband Donn and son Bennett Carl Claybaugh.
Interment will take place in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
