Mrs. Barbara Ann 'Pudden' Berry Tyler, 75, transitioned Monday, May 24, 2021 in Trenton, NC. Funeral services will take place 2PM Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Mills Funeral Home Chapel, Kinston, NC. Viewing will precede 12pm-2pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Haiti Cemetery, Trenton, NC. Arrangements are entrusted with Mills Funeral Home, Inc. Haiti Cemetery 2nd Ave, Trenton, NC 28585 *** Barbara Ann Berry Tyler, daughter of the late Walter Lee Berry, Sr. and Creasie Geneva Greene Berry, was born December 16, 1945 in Jones County, Trenton, North Carolina. She was affectionally known as "Pudden." Her paternal grandparents were John Fate Berry and Olivia Etta Hill Berry. Her maternal grandparents were Johnnie Ander Greene, Jr. and Eva Roberta Strayhorn Greene. She was previously married to Gregory M. Tyler, Sr. and to this union God added 2 precious sons, Gregory M. Tyler, Jr. and Walter Edward Tyler. These two sons were Barbara's pride and joy. Later in life she met David Roberts, her companion and partner for over 23 years. She chose God as her personal and divine Savior at an early age and united with Mill Run Free Will Chapel Church. She always maintained her relationship with "Mill Run" and enjoyed the friendship and love from all the local church members throughout her life. Barbara attended the public schools in Jones County and graduated from Jones Senior High School in Trenton, NC. She had a thirst for education and attended and graduated from St. Augustine's College, Raleigh, NC in May 1970 with a major in French. Barbara later moved to Takoma Park, Md. and worked for the Social Security Administration. Later, she and her sons relocated to Trenton, NC where she was employed as a French Teacher and worked for some time until her health declined due to mental illness. She acknowledged, accepted and lived courageously with mental Illness throughout her life, receiving support from her beloved parents, family and David. This enabled her to live independently throughout her life. Later in life, Barbara had other additional health challenges that prevented her from walking. Even so, she was courageous and bore her situation with grace and dignity. She loved fellowshipping with family and friends on the telephone, many of whom sought her help and counseling. She was admired for her "recall memory" in that she could speak French fluently and provide telephone numbers from memory to callers who needed a telephone number for someone. She was blessed in so many ways having been cared for in her home by her sons and David. She received loving care also from her health care aide, Helen Williams, for almost 10 years. She loved Desmond Brinkley, who grew up next door with her sons, who was always loving and kind to assist her at any time. Barbara was peacefully called to rest Monday, May 24, 2021 at her home in Trenton, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter L. Berry, Sr. and Creasie G. Berry, and her elder brother, Walter L. Berry Jr. and elder sister Helen M. Nixon. She leaves to cherish her memory life partner, David C. Roberts; two sons, Gregory M. Tyler, Jr. (Tameaka) of Greensboro, NC and Walter E. Tyler of Los Angeles, CA; nine granddaughters, Kierra Mundine, Zanetta Tyler, Ayana Tyler, Ashley Tyler, Madison Tyler, Sydney Tyler, Tatianna Tyler, Olivia Tyler and Amberlyn Boyland (step-granddaughter); three grandsons, Gregory Z. Tyler, Isaiah Tyler and Joseph Boyland (step-grandson); three great granddaughters, Chloe, Journee, and Janine. Two great grandsons; Caden and Favor; sister Eva Mae Berry Gwyn of Wake Forest, NC, brother Clarence Elbert Berry of Trenton, NC; brothers -in-law Calvin L. Nixon, Sr. of Merced CA and Roy R. Gwyn, Jr. of Wake Forest, NC; sister-in-law Brenda Marshall Berry of Atlanta, GA; aunt-in-law Margaret Greene of New York, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
