James was born 0n 16 Feb 1776, probably in Rhode Island, and married first Abigail Pray in 1797 in Rhode Island and second, Lydia Payne abt. 1838 in Ohio.
His children were Clarissa (b. 27 Aug 1797), Owen (b. 13 Jan 1799), Thomas (b. 1801), Otis (b. 08 May 1803), Alpha (b. 1805), James Jr. (b. 1807), Pauline (or Perlina) (b. 1811), Abigail (b. 1813), Lucinda (b. 1815), Hugh (b. 26 Aug 1816), and Henry (b. 1817).
