Edwin Ray Deeds, age 90, of Goodland, KS passed from this life to his eternal home with the Lord Jesus on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Topside Manor, in Goodland, KS. He was born December 26, 1932, in rural Cheyenne County, KS, twelve miles south of Bird City, KS to Ray Delbert and Elsie Irene (Eggers) Deeds. The family soon moved to a home by the Beaver Creek. Edwin attended Maple Grove country school in Cheyenne County, KS riding his horse, Tony, and carrying his lunch in a syrup bucket.

Ed would discover his love for the land and began farming while in high school. Graduating from Bird City High School in 1951, Ed was a standout athlete in basketball and track. In the summer of 1952, he would meet Sharon Yvonne Byerly of St. Francis, KS. On June 5, 1955, Ed and Sharon were united in marriage, celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary this past year. To this union three children were born. On February 8, 1953, Edwin joined the United States Air Force during the Korean War and served four years. He was honorably discharged in February 1957. Ed and Sharon returned to Kansas and purchased a home in Goodland, KS in 1957, which has been the family home for 66 years.

Edwin was a lifelong steward of the earth, and his love of the land was apparent to all who knew him. Ed was keenly aware of the many blessings from God, beautiful sunrises, sunsets, fresh air, and cold water from a well. For as long as he was able, Ed loved reading the Bible. He was baptized and was certainly ready to meet his Lord. (John 3:3)

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wayne, Harold, and Don; and two sisters, Carol Brubaker, and Lorraine Brethower.
A funeral service will take place December 15, 2023, at 10:00 MST at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 222 W 13th, Goodland, KS.
