Janice Kay Hamming-Persons, age 80, of Kalamazoo, MI (formerly of Wyoming) passed away peacefully to be with her Lord after her courageous battle with cancer on Monday, December 4, 2023. Janice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a loyal employee of GFS for 38 years. She loved helping in many ways for the Grand Rapids Kennel Club, Kalamazoo Kennel Club, and Third Leg Club. Janice proudly served in the US Army and was active in her later years in the American Legion. She was very passionate about her country and was extremely patriotic. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Hamming; grandson, Jonathan Lane Hamming; and siblings, William, Eugene, Marvin, Shirley, and Alice. Jan will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 3 years, Carl Persons; children, Jon and Jennifer Hamming, Mary and Dan Anson, Jim and Kim Hamming; stepchildren, Alisha Turner, Teressa and Paul Shaffsma; grandchildren, Chris and Erin Hamming, Kari and Derek Koster, Katelyn and Ben Schilz, Cassie Hamming; 10 great-grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Kathy and Matt Vokes; sister-in-law, Marilyn and Bob TenHarkel; brother-in-law, Gary and Karen Hamming; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, December 11, 2023 at Calvary Christian Reformed Church, 3500 Byron Center Ave. SW, Wyoming with Pastor Don Barnes and Pastor Mark VanDrunen officiating. Burial will take place at Floral View Memorial Gardens.
