On November 4, 2023, exactly one month short of her 91st birthday, Barbara Barden Timmerman passed away peacefully at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash. Her children and grandchildren were blessed with the opportunity to be with her as she passed. Barbara (Knotts) was born on December 4, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana where she grew up and spent her early adulthood, later moving to Cincinnati. She was a deeply loved woman, who brought positive impact and incredible caring to everything she did as a Mother, wife, friend, sorority sister (Kappa Kappa Gamma), neighbor, attorney and as a mentor to many who were lucky enough to cross paths with her. She was a trail-blazing role model to her seven children and their friends, who balanced career and family long before it was commonplace. She could be tough as nails, but had a heart as big as the universe and was quick to forgive. Barbara was a Cum Laude graduate of Butler University in Indianapolis (1954) and University of Cincinnati College of Law (1974). She began her Legal career in Corporate law, but then chose to serve others, joining the Hamilton County Public Defender's office in 1979. Upon her retirement in 2005, Hamilton County officially proclaimed February 28th, 'Barbara K. Barden Day', in recognition of her outstanding record as a Public Defender, Trial Counsel and Director of the Guardian ad Litem Division, as a leader and mentor of other attorneys and social workers and as a zealous advocate for youth. Even after retiring, she carried on - helping teach English as a second language to adult Spanish speaking immigrants. She and her beloved husband Scott were very involved in the lives of their children and welcomed the friends of all seven of them, into their home in Mariemont. They 'didn't know a stranger' and the kids of the neighborhood knew it. Their home was lively and welcoming, typically including at least a couple of dogs and cats along with one or two extra humans. Barbara was predeceased by her parents - Walker Knotts of Eugene, Oregon and Jack and Glen Munro of Naples, FL, as well as her sister Sandra (Knotts) Hines and her brother Mike Munro.
