Lori Lee Wood, age 65, of Lincoln, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at home after a hard fought battle with breast cancer.

A funeral service for Lori will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2023 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Charles City with Erik Hoefer officiating. Burial will be at Beckwith Cemetery in rural Colwell, Iowa

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the church on Monday.

Lori Lee (Hughes) Wood was born on October 15, 1958, in Charles City, Iowa, the fifth child of Thomas and Unis (Rivers) Hughes. She attended Charles City school and graduated from Charles City High School in 1977. Lori continued her education achieving a bachelor's degree in education from Buena Vista University. On September 1, 1978 she was married to Curtis Jung, they had four children together: Michael, Regina, Ryan, and Christina. They later divorced.

On March 17, 1997, Lori was united in marriage to Rick Wood. They had one child together, Kelly Wood. Adding to the blended family with Rick's children Heather, Aaron, and Nickolas. Lori taught at several schools throughout Iowa and Kansas. When she retired from teaching, she began working at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. She continued working there until her health declined.

Lori had a lifelong love of horses, was an avid baseball fan, cheering for the Atlanta Braves on most occasions, and above all enjoyed spending time with her family. You would often find Lori watching her children or grandchildren playing sports, she enjoyed competition and cheering for the team. Lori had a unique whistle that could be heard from miles away, the kids knew when it was time to come home or when mom was cheering for something good.

Living family members include the love of her life, her husband, Rick Wood of Lincoln; children: Michael (Claire) Jung of Charles City, Regina (Jason) Mathern of Reinbeck, Ryan Jung of Minneapolis, MN, Christina Jung of Marshalltown, Kelly Wood of Lincoln, Heather Wood of Nevada, Aaron Wood of Boone and Nickolas Wood of Ackley; grandchildren: Westin Sullivan, Austen, Trevor, and Hunter Mathern, Clayton, Easton, and Finlee Malcom, Cooper Wood, Wyatt, Remi, Preston, Jade, and William Wood; her siblings: Carol (Dick) Savage, Nancy Recker, James (Laura) Hughes, John (Tammy) Hughes, Gina (Tom) Trepes and David (Lisa) Hughes; mother-in-Law, Belva Kinney; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lori was preceded in death by her parents in 2002 and 2011; and brother-in-law, Ron Recker in 2003.
