Thomas was born in the townland of Clonearl, County Offaly, Ireland to Thomas Fitzgerald and Mary Coyne. He was baptized on 24th September 1856 in the Catholic Parish of Philipstown.

His father was a retired artillery Gunner in the East India Company. Thomas and his family had immigrated to Dundee, Scotland where the family lived for several years.

In July 1870, Thomas boarded the Anchor Liner S.S. Iowa and sailed for New York.

Gravesite Details

Unfortunately, the location of his grave in the cemetery has been lost. His remains were temporarily interred in a "Transient Vault" at Glendale Cemetery and were later reinterred in St. Vincent's De Paul Cemetery.
