Mrs. Mamie Sharp of Gideon Dies

Funeral services for Mrs. Mamie Maude (Waltrip) Sharp, 78, of Gideon, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Gideon Methodist Church. Rev. James Estep, Rev. J. Harmon Holt and Rev. George Poe officiated for the services and burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden.
Mrs. Sharp died Thursday at the Poplar Bluff Hospital where she had been undergoing treatment for two weeks after suffering a stroke. She was born February 5, 1885 in Clarkton, the daughter of Judge James M. and Priscilla (Kirkpatrick) Waltrip. She spent her life in Clarkton and Gideon and had lived in Gideon for 60 years. She was married April 3, 1904 to Van Harrison "Harry" Sharp of Gideon. For 19 years she and her husband operated the Princess Theater there. Her father served as a judge in Dunklin County for 25 years. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband; nine children, Mrs. Virginia Malcolm of Sikeston, Mrs. Priscilla Donoho of St. Louis, Mrs. Wanda Graves of Poplar Bluff, Mrs. Lucille Foushee of Dexter, James Sharp of Bethalto, Ill., Herbert Sharp of Flint, Mich. Van Jr. of New Madrid, Byron and Keith Sharp both of Gideon: 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
