On Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023, Evelyn Claire Jacobson took her last breath on earth and her first leap into heaven.

Evelyn was the fifth child of six and grew up in Custer, graduating from Scottville High School in 1948.

She met the love of her life, Elmer C. Jacobson, and married him on May 14, 1949. Together, they had two children E. Penelope "Penny" Jacobson and Scottie (Jacobson) Engblade. While raising her kids, Evelyn taught Sunday School at Bethany Lutheran Church and worked part time at Paulina Stearns Hospital. She also was a sports fanatic and oftentimes could be heard down the street cheering at the TV while watching a game.

Evelyn had an incredible soft spot for animals, especially cats. Over the years she took in many strays, fed alley cats and adopted other people's cats. She played an active role in collecting money for the humane society. Evelyn loved her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She was known for always supplying a sweet treat whether it was a Reese's peanut butter cup or making up a milkshake. She showered her family with love.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Jacobson; daughter Penny; parents Oscar and Geneva Odean; siblings Arloa Flynn, Bernice Durfee, Wilda Albaitis, Russ Odean and Loreen Dodson and most recently, grandson-in-law, J Curtis.

She is survived by her daughter Scottie (Pete) Engblade of Ludington; granddaughter Gillian (Scott) Bentz of Montague and Ronnie Curtis of Ludington. She is also survived by her great-grandkids Alexis (Mitch) Ferguson of Fruitport, McKena Coron of Montague, Keegan and Keeley Curtis of Ludington, and J-Allen and Leehah Bentz of Montague. She has one great, great-grandson Auger Ferguson.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023 at 4 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington with visitation at 3 p.m. A luncheon will follow her funeral. Evelyn will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington.
