Sue had a strong work ethic in all that she did. Upon obtaining her associate degree, she eagerly entered the work force as a dental assistant. After 6 years in the medical field, she accepted a position with the U.S. Postal Service climbing the ladder as a clerk, carrier, postmaster and ultimately advancing to become the Post Office Operations Manager (POOM) covering Central, Northern and Downeast Maine. Sue took pride in her career and was a great leader. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 34 successful years.
While being a dedicated career woman, she remained very involved in her community which included being an active member of Moosabec Ambulance Corps, referee IAABO and coached all sports with area children for years. In addition, she was a certified aerobics instructor teaching classes in the area for 3 decades. Past retirement, she continued to be active in Rumary Chapter #46 OES and was the heart of the Moosabec 4th of July Committee, serving as Secretary and Treasurer for countless years.
Sue's most treasured moments were made spending time with her family. She loved following her boys sports and activities which continued with her grandchildren. She also adored being "Nannie Sue" to all her pageant girls. Everyone wanted a "Nannie Sue." Since childhood, Sue's favorite place on earth was Schoodic Lake. Many hours were spent with family and friends around the campfire, waterskiing, turtle hunting, boating, swimming, sunbathing, and playing games with her grandchildren. There was no other place she would have rather been.
Sue was predeceased by her mother, Sally C. Smith in 1985; and her father, Robert "Bob" Smith in 1997.
A celebration of life will be held at Community of Christ Church, 154 Main Street, Jonesport, ME, on Sunday, December 3, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Ark Animal Shelter in Cherryfield, or Jadah's Cat Shack in Jonesport.
