Detective Sgt. Hood began his career in law enforcement as a member of the Tewksbury Police Auxiliary and Tewksbury Police Reserve. In 1988, he was appointed as a permanent full-time officer and, 10 years later, became the town's first youth officer. He earned detective status on Sept. 9, 2001 and was appointed sergeant on Feb. 4 of this year. In addition, he represented the town as its juvenile officer at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School.

Mr. Hood was awarded numerous certificates of merit for his service to his community and its youth by the U.S. Senate, U.S. Congress, state House of Representatives and Senate, Gov. Mitt Romney, Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey, the Tewksbury Board of Selectmen, Tewksbury Patrolman's Union Local 352, and the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council.
