Samuel Berry Fite, age 91, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023. He was the son of Berry Wilson (BW) Fite and Edna Cox Fite and was born and raised in the small North Georgia mountain town of Tennga.
Sam was predeceased by his mother and father and his brother, Bill "Sarge" Fite of Douglasville, Georgia and Brother-in-Law, Frank Cloer of Conyers, Georgia.

He is survived by sisters Betty Fite (Frank) Cloer of Conyers, Georgia and Peggy Fite (Andy) McClendon of Huntsville, Alabama. He is also survived by long-time special friend Kathy Latham and her daughter, Wendy (Fred) Strange and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Growing up in the mountains of North Georgia, Sam was an avid hunter, sometimes fisherman, and upon occasion frog-gigger. He was self-taught and skilled in taxidermy and his home in Douglasville was filled with trophy grouse, turkey, quail, squirrel, fox and other wild species. Sam was also known for raising pedigree hunting dogs.

Sam was an avid reader and writer and was once published in Georgia Outdoor News – a publication of over 35 years – covering hunting, fishing and conservation issues in Georgia and the southeast.

Sam moved to Douglasville in 1960 and worked with the Douglas County School District in the Maintenance Department.

Sam will be fondly remembered as a storyteller; for his infectious laughter (which could reduce an entire house-full of family and friends to belly-laughter and tears no matter the number of times Sam's and Bill's stories had been retold); as a lover of nature; and for his deep love for God and his family.

A Celebration of Life event is being planned for a later date. Memorial contributions would be appreciated in the form of planting or dedicating a tree to Sam's honor.
