His funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday at Boger City United Methodist Church. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Reeps Grove UM Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM Thursday at Warlick Funeral Home.
He was born February 13, 1921 in Burke County, NC, son of the late Joseph Walker and Nora Beside Clay Battle of Morgantown, NC. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served overseas in North Africa and E.T.O., Sicily and Germany. He was awarded the Eamet Campaign Medal with 6 Bronze Service Stars, the American Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Battle was a retired electrical contractor and had served as electrical inspector for Charlotte, NC and Lincolnton, NC.
He is survived by his wife, Anne D. Battle; his daughter, Patricia and her husband, William G. Wilson; and two grandchildren, Allen Battle Wilson and Laura Elizabeth Wilson of Charlottesville, VA; two sisters, Rosa Graybeat and Mary Harbison, both of Morganton, NC; one half-sister, Betty Kincaid Wiley of Hollyhill, Florida; and one half-brother, William Kincaid of Morganton, NC.
Warlick Funeral Home, Lincolnton, North Carolina is in charge of arrangements.
