Joan was born on May 15, 1929 in Lakewood, IL, the daughter of Granville and Maurine (Smith) Hodson. She graduated from Cowden High School. Joan married Eldon Dean Banning on July 23, 1949 in Cowden, IL, and he preceded her in death on May 9, 2013. Joan and Eldon worked tirelessly in their retirement to convert her overgrown, childhood home place into an idyllic country retreat they dubbed Hodson Hills. Joan loved her large family and enjoyed birdwatching, gardening, sewing, and baking. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldon; son-in-law, Neil Storm; brother, Robert Hodson; and sisters, Kathaleen Licklider and Ruth Elliot.
Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL.
