Weichel, H. Nelson
1867 – 1918

Harry Nelson Weichel was the son of Joseph Weichel, the Civil War veteran and his wife Sarah E. Doads.

He was found on the 1880 O'Hara Township census while his father was farming and had 3 children in the house, with Nelson the oldest.

By 1900 Nelson was married to wife Benena and living at #67 Cherry Street. He was working as a clothing salesman, but in the next census was an inspector at a pipe mill.

The couple had 5 children in all. Some confusion exists in the Greenwood records, as Nelson does not appear in the original interment book under the name Weichel. There is a NW Weigel who died on December 3, 1918, was interred on December 6th.

He died in Pittsburgh at age 51 of pneumonia and was buried in Section 5, Range 9, Lot 20. It is possible that this is Nelson Weichel, as Margaret Weichel also appears in this lot. This may have been more than a spelling mistake in the records, with the 2 really being buried in the Range 8 plot, or they could have been removed to Range 8 at a time after interment.

Harry Nelson Weichel -

The death certificate confirms that this is the son of Joseph Weichel, with interment records just a bit mixed up on the letters, originally written as N W Weichel. His mother's maiden name on the certificate is also written as Sarah Mayhew.

Harry died in Pittsburgh at #182 47th Street, and worked as a laborer.

Buried on December 6th by Gilbert McInnes of Butler Street.
